Brent was born in Broederstroom and matriculated from Pretoria Boys High in 1986. He went on to study BSc. Building Management at the University of Witwatersrand but left in 1991 to start his career in the mining and construction industry. Brent is married to Christelle, eldest daughter of Kobus and Madel Fourie and they have two sons. Brent was called to join the family business in 2008.
His father-in-law Kobus Fourie, former Financial Director of Schoeman, encouraged him to learn the day-to-day running of the business and he spent two years with his fingers in the soil, driving tractors, planters, and getting to know agriculture.
Brent was appointed as CEO of Grain Production, Processing, and Storage in 2011.
Brent talks about his passion for agriculture because “… no two days are the same. You can manage systems and people but you can’t manage the weather and politics. Sometimes we must go down on bended knee and surrender to nature. It’s a very dynamic industry where no two seasons are the same. I’m humbled by it and sleep well at night because I know that we are contributing something positive to the world. We influence the community around us and feed people across the whole country.”
He describes Schoeman as always being at the forefront of new ideas and initiatives, new ways of doing things without paying expensive school fees.
