Zamukele currently supports 45 farmers across various provinces such as the Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and the North-West. The farmers deliver their dry white beans to the bean plant in Delmas on a contract basis. According to Jacques, each farmer receives five visits from one of three mentors during the year. The mentors visit at critical times during the production stages. They also advise on mechanisation and share other farmers’ success stories to inspire and teach each other.
During the 2020 production year, 152 commercial and 20 new commercial farmers in five provinces planted 11 700ha dry white beans for Schoeman. The beans are cleaned and sorted at the bean plant in Delmas and supplied to the food processing industry.
According to Nelson Mandela, there is no greater gift to give than one’s time and energy to help others, without asking anything in return. Schoeman live by this principle and projects like Zamukele helps restore people’s pride and nurtures entrepreneurs.
